The European Commission has tasked VITO, eco-logic and CENTEXBEL to organize a study on the Technical, Regulatory, Economic and Environmental Effectiveness of Textile Fibres Recycling.

New Regulation 2016/26 on nonylphenol ethoxylates in water-washable textiles was published 13/01/16 and enters in force as from 03/02/21. The regulation sets the limit value of NPEO in washable textiles at 100 mg/kg.

The industry can submit information on substances of very high concern in their articles to ECHA's SCIP database. The aim is to make product recycling safer and improve information on hazardous chemicals in products.

Centexbel, the Belgian research centre for textiles and plastics, is part of the newly approved Horizon 2020 project HEREWEAR. Within this innovation project, Centexbel will, as part of a European consortium, aim to develop biobased circular textiles.

During the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic, the FAMHP took a number of exceptional measures to guarantee sufficient availability of surgical mask that meet the minimum quality requirements for use as medical devices. These exceptional measures will be lifted on 1 February 2021.
