Google purchases your patents

Between May 8 and 22, Google conducted a rather peculiar experiment, called the ‘Patent Purchase Promotion’. For this special action, Google created a portal where companies and people can present their patents to Google. Later this month, Google will make an offer to the applicants in order to actually purchase their patents.

Google will evaluate the system and maybe implement it on a permanent basis.

Graphene for wearable electronic devices

FORCE7: Mopping up oil spills

Engineers have successfully demonstrated a new technology to clean up oil spills, which could reduce the environmental danger of drilling for oil in cold, rough seas, such as those in the Arctic. Centexbel participated in the European research project FORCE7 that developed the textile material to wipe the oil off the surface of the sea. The video clip includes a testimony by our colleague Monika Rymarczyk.

The final Force7 textile mop prototype has been presented at the Techtextil Fair (4-7 May 2015) at Centexbel (Hall 4.1 stand 52) and D’Appolonia.

Smart textiles prevent pressure ulcers

Valencia (3rd March 2015) - The European research project PUMA (Pressure Ulcer Measurement and Actuation) technically coordinated by the Biomechanics Institute (IBV) has developed an innovative portable and non-invasive device to prevent and early detect the risk of Pressure Ulcer (PU) development and revert its onset for Tetraplegic Spinal Cord Injured (T-SCI) individuals relying on wheelchairs.

EU framework for protection of trade secrets

Sinds 11 maart 2015 is met het optrekken van de steunpercentages de strategische ecologiesteun opnieuw gestart, nadat de steunpercentages in juni vorig jaar op 0 % werden gezet. Er werd gekozen voor een vereenvoudigde subsidietabel voor de drie types van investeringen (milieu-investeringen, investeringen ten behoeve van energiebesparing en investeringen ten behoeve van energie uit hernieuwbare energiebronnen of hoogrenderende warmtekrachtkoppeling).
