The analysis of multilayer films is a challenge for any laboratory. We have refined our processes over the years by improving our sample preparation and SEM imaging techniques in combination with EDX.
Complemented by FTIR analysis, we are able to characterize the thickness and composition of no less than four layers (PET/PE/Al/PE).
Multilayer plastic films are, amongst others, widely used in food packaging as they can offer different functional properties by combining different materials that provide a combination of barrier protection, durability, convenience and aesthetics.
