Principle

Test method to determine the thickness of the pile above the substrate of a textile floor covering. The test is applicable to all kinds of textile floor covertings with pile that can be shorn from the substrate. In the event of carpets with varying pile thicknesses or density, the test can only be carried out if the different areas can be measured separately.

The thickness is determined by measuring the thickness of samples under a pressure of 2,0 kPA before and after removal of the pile above the substrate.

Testing procedure

The tickness of four samples (200 x 200 mm) is measured at five approximately equally spaced places, each at least 20 mm from the edges of the samples, under the standard pressure of 2,0 kPA.

Then the pile is shorn from the specimen and the thickness of each shorn specimen is measured.
