The R&D activities of Centexbel-VKC support the textile, plastic converting and related companies with the explicit aim to reinforce the innovation capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) and to assist the industry in its transition to a sustainable future. As a research institution created by and for the industry, we initiate and participate in publicly funded pre-competitive research projects and in market-oriented contract research projects.

To guarantee total impartiality and to avoid any conflict of interest, we explicitly exclude all product development in those areas covered by the CE certification scope for which we are accredited.

SmartX is short for "European Smart Textiles Accelerator". Innovation projects supported through the SmartX Accelerator programme will focus on connecting promising design prototypes and a growing end market interest in smart textiles and wearables.

EcoPUR aims at developing a polyurethane coating on a synthetic textile in compliance with future environmental and health legislations in anticipation of future production standards.

The aim of this Cornet project is to develop non-toxic, durable and biobased FR coatings and finishes.

This Interreg 2 Seas-Mers-Zeeën project will develop biobased composites for applications in a marine environment in answer to the growing markets for fish & seaweed farming, energy harvesting, boats, pontons, anchoring and buoy elements.

According to E. Beckung (Probability of walking in children with cerebral palsy in Europe-2008) 54% of children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) can walk without aids,16% of patients will need assistive devices to walk and 30% are not able to walk at 5 years of age. This means that 46% of CP patients can possibly benefit from innovative technology like exoskeleton.

The main goal of DECOAT is to enable circular use of textiles and plastic parts with (multilayer) ‘coatings’ that cannot be recycled yet.

The aim of Repair3D is to use recycled CFRPs and polymers in order to deliver 3D printed products, demonstrate the circular use of materials through multiple cycles of manufacturing/recycling and provide new ways to repurpose recycled materials with an end goal to minimize plastic and CFRPs waste.

The COBRACOMP project aims to strengthen the competitiveness of companies in the value chain of production of composite materials.

In line with the Plastic Strategy for Europe, the time has come to stop the depletion, landfilling and incineration and shift to a Circular Model in the plastic sector improving the recycling rate but also the value of secondary raw materials from plastic recycling. As such, MultiCycle will deliver an industrial recycling pilot plant for fossil and bio-based thermoplastic multilayer packaging and fibre reinforced composites using a novel solvent based selective extraction process which allows recovering pure plastics and additives in mixed wastes for their later reprocessing into value-added

CONTEXT brings together European researchers, manufacturers and main relevant stakeholders in order to develop joint ideas and initiatives which can be turned into advanced smart textile products.
