Katoen is een zachte, eencellige vezel, die uit de opperhuid (epidermis) van de zaden van de katoenplant (Gossypium) groeit. De vezels worden doorgaans tot draden gesponnen en als zodanig gebruikt om zacht, luchtdoorlatend textiel van te maken.
